Butterfly Pose (Baddha Konasana) Variation with a Block

Butterfly poseBaddha Konasana (also called Bound Angle Pose) provides a great stretch in the hips and thighs, and can relieve aching legs. It helps relieve stress and fatigue, and stimulates digestions.

If you have particularly flexible hips and knees, you can try elevating your feet on a block in Butterfly pose to deepen the posture. In other words, this variation of the classic pose takes this pose to the “next level” for students who are already very comfortable in the Butterfly position.

Be cautious here and only try this if you are very open and flexible in your lower body.

Butterfly Pose Variation with a Block: How to Do it Step-by-Step

Step 1

Place a block on the floor in front of you and get into Butterfly pose.

Step 2

Elevate your feet to rest on the block.

Step 3

Move into a forward bend for an even greater stretch (advanced).
